These are now held regularly, on the first and third weeks of most months. They stop over Summer when sunset is too late to be useful. They are sometimes on Wednesdays and sometimes Fridays: this strange pattern is to avoid the full moon, which makes the sky too bright to allow much observing. They start at 8 p.m. unless otherwise indicated. All are at the New Inn, Eccup, Leeds, LS16 8AU (grid ref SE 288 429; see the map). 2011 meetings:

It is important to check our home page (not this page) on the day of the meeting. We normally modify the home page late afternoon or early evening that day (though exigencies sometimes prevent this).

We will be part of the BBC Stargazing Live event again in January 2012. The BBC website has a page for the Leeds Astronomy Society with details. All the following meetings will be held at the New Inn, Eccup, described on the left. Wednesday January 18th 7 p.m. to 9.30 p.m.: STARGAZING LIVE. A major event in conjunction with the BBC. Whatever the weather there will be displays and talks. Wed Feb 1st from 7.30 p.m.: Public viewing night. The Moon will be an attraction. Friday 17th Feb from 7.30 p.m.: Public viewing night. On Moon-free nights such as this several faint objects become visible. |
